Our Call Has Been Answered ... Meet the Reverend Terri Stanford

After much prayer and discernment, we are pleased to announce our new Rector. Please welcome The Reverend Terri Stanford, who has accepted our call to be the Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She will join us in March, 2008.

A native of South Carolina and Georgia, Rev. Stanford received her Masters of Divinity at The General Theological Seminary in New York, a leading center for theological eduation in the Anglican Communion. She was also educated at Georgia State University, where she received a Bachelor's degree in journalism, and at Mercer University where she recvied an MBA. She is now continuing her education at Seabury Western in Evanston, an Episcopal Seminary dedicated to learning in the service of God's mission.

Since her ordination in 2004, she has served as Associate Rector at St. Chrystostom's in Chicago. She has particular expertise in Congregational Development, Outreach and Christian Education. She has played a lead role in developing a monthly "Neighbors in Need" dinner, serving the low-income and homeless in the community near St. Chrysostom's, and she chairs the Evangelism Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago.

Rev. Terri and her husband, David, have a combined total of three grown children and six grandchildren.

You will find Rev. Terri to bring a sense of warmth and welcoming, coupled with an energy and enthusiasm, all of which will help us as we find new life.

Perhaps it is best to hear it in her own words:

"My personal approach to worship on the Lord's Day is profoundly centered in the celebration of the Eucharist. That seems the most welcoming tradition to our visitors and newcomers, particularly young adults and those coming from other liturgical traditions."

She continues: "In reading the profile of Emmanuel and consdering the four main goals you have identified -- enlivening spiritual practices, evangelism and congregational development, Christian Education and looking beyond yourselves -- I am intrigued by your sense of openness to change and your willingness to embrace new ideas that will bring a renewed sense of vitality to the parish ... I look foward to exploring with you how Emmanuel can move forward in develpoing these areas. This opportunity to do mninistry together can indeed be an exciting time as we journey with each other into the future to which God calls each and every one of us."
